Tamper-proofing of electronic and printed text documents via robust hashing and data-hiding

چکیده
In this paper, we deal with the problem of authentication and tamper-proofing of text documents that can be distributed in electronic or printed forms. We advocate the combination of robust text hashing and text datahiding technologies as an efficient solution to this problem. First, we consider the problem of text data-hiding in the scope of the Gel’fand-Pinsker data-hiding framework. For illustration, two modern text data-hiding methods, namely color index modulation (CIM) and location index modulation (LIM), are explained. Second, we study two approaches to robust text hashing that are well suited for the considered problem. In particular, both approaches are compatible with CIM and LIM. The first approach makes use of optical character recognition (OCR) and a classical cryptographic message authentication code (MAC). The second approach is new and can be used in some scenarios where OCR does not produce consistent results. The experimental work compares both approaches and shows their robustness against typical intentional/unintentional document distortions including electronic format conversion, printing, scanning, photocopying, and faxing.

Authentication of biometric identification documents via mobile devices
In this paper, we consider the problem of authentication of biometric identification documents via mobile devices such as mobile phones or PDAs. We assume that the biometric identification document holds biometric data (e.g., face or fingerprint) in the form of an image and personal data in the form of text, both being printed directly onto the identification document. The proposed solution mak...
متن کاملImage authentication using LBP-based perceptual image hashing
Feature extraction is a main step in all perceptual image hashing schemes in which robust features will led to better results in perceptual robustness. Simplicity, discriminative power, computational efficiency and robustness to illumination changes are counted as distinguished properties of Local Binary Pattern features. In this paper, we investigate the use of local binary patterns for percep...
متن کاملText data-hiding for digital and printed documents: theoretical and practical considerations
In this paper, we propose a new theoretical framework for the data-hiding problem of digital and printed text documents. We explain how this problem can be seen as an instance of the well-known Gel’fand-Pinsker problem. The main idea for this interpretation is to consider a text character as a data structure consisting of multiple quantifiable features such as shape, position, orientation, size...
متن کاملDetecting modifications in paper documents: a coding approach
This paper presents an algorithm called CIPDEC (Content Integrity of Printed Documents using Error Correction), which identifies any modifications made to a printed document. CIPDEC uses an error correcting code for accurate detection of addition/deletion of even a few pixels. A unique advantage of CIPDEC is that it works blind – it does not require the original document for such detection. Ins...
متن کاملStegoWall: blind statistical detection of hidden data
Novel functional possibilities, provided by recent data hiding technologies, carry out the danger of uncontrolled (unauthorized) and unlimited information exchange that might be used by people with unfriendly interests. The multimedia industry as well as the research community recognize the urgent necessity for network security and copyright protection, or rather the lack of adequate law for di...
